The Marcellus Shale Series is a series of posts on topics related to the Marcellus Shale formation which contains varying estimates of recoverable natural gas. While estimates of the amount of recoverable clean burning natural gas that can be recovered there is little doubt about the importance of this energy source. This will be a key component of America’s return to world leadership and dominance in energy recovery and production.
Terry Engelder, a Pennsylvania State University geologist, estimates it holds 489 trillion cubic feet of gas, enough to meet total U.S. needs for about 20 years at the current national consumption rate of some 23 trillion cubic feet a year.
This post series is related to the American Energy Renaissance category.
Note: Series lead posts are backdated to May 2010 which is a month prior to launch date of Our Founder’s Compass. This is done so that of all series lead posts will appear in a month in the archive that does not contain any regular content posts. This helps with overall organization and provides a single location where a reader can review series lead series posts to learn what is in a particular series.
